Prize Fighter 11 Live Blog
Well folks, despite lagging behind with my Mayweather-Mosley preview, I’m gonna return to a spot of live blogging on tonight’s Prize Fighter tournament (live internet feed permitting).
One again, here’s the deal: I’m gonna start the evening off with some cash on my online betting account (I’m upping it to £30 this time after the success of last time) and using nothing but faith, a sniffer dog, a sixth sense, the force of a Jedi, Columbo and Miss. Marple, I’ll be able to buy myself a finished Money-Sugar preview by bedtime……….maybe.
The latest entry into this pretty successful canon, is a bit predictable and therefore didn’t merit a preview, yet to give you some idea what we’re looking at, here are the runners and riders:
21:00 Mark Krence (1/4) v Zahid Kahut (11/4)
21:30 John Lewis Dickinson (1/2) v Leon Williams (6/4)
21:45 Darren Corbett (2/5) v John Anthony (7/4)
22:00 Herbie Hide (1/10) v Wayne Brooks (11/2)
Four seemingly one sided looking quarter finals mean I’ll be punting small to begin and then laying large on the semis after I’ve had a good look at them all. The whole thing kicks off in 90 minutes, stay tuned and join in if you can.
Oh, I forgot to give you the odds for a winner outright (the bookies see it as a one horse race):
Hide 4/6, Krence & Dickinson 11/2, Williams & Corbett 9/1, Anthony 22/1, Kahut 25/1 & Brooks 50/1.
20:57 Searching for a link……hmmmm….I got snooker……
21:00 Got it, thank you Cagney & Lacey. Eyes down, look in.
21:01 Ah, York Hall, cracking little venue. Matt Scrivens stood on my foot last time I was there you know.
21:05 I’ve no doubt Krence will take the opener, I just can’t see sense in gambling on him to win outright. Maybe picking a round would be better. I don’t have long to decide. Butcher v lawyer, lovely stuff.
21:09 Go on then, £2 on Krence in round one, £2 @ 12/1. Kahut looks like he shouldn’t be in there.
21:13 Well that’s awfully unlucky, Krence a smidgen from winning early. Kahut will be out within the next minute and that’s rather irritating. He fights like a lawyer might I add.
21:18 That’s brave from the lad, he’s survived until the third but he has no hope here. If he can get in one of these things, perhaps it’s time to dust off my gloves?
21:20 Krence is 1/500 half way through the third. That’s not short enough.
21:22 Gutsy from the novice but Krence waltzs through to the semis. That was awful to be quite honest.
21:24 The butcher makes mincemeat of Kahut, yak yak yak.
21:26 Puncher against boxer next, Williams v Dickinson. I’ve seen Dickinson fight before and wasn’t overly impressed. Not seem anything of Williams but apparently he models himself on Mike Tyson. Never heard that one before.
21:33 Oh, here come the gremlins, lost my feed and my online account has jammed. Was gonna go for Williams at 7/4. Never mind.
21:36 First round to Dickinson, although Williams stunned him with a left hook. The Birtley boy looks decent.
21:40 Another round for the geordie there, although Williams can swat. This one won’t be over until it’s over (if that makes sense).
21:44 That’s what Prize Fighter is all about, cracking little scrap. Dickinson for me- two rounds to one, and I fancy him to edge Krence in the semis.
21:47 Split decision for Dickinson, he was sweating there for a bit. Williams looks an ok prospect, maybe could drop down a couple of weights to be honest where he’d be far more effective.
21:49 Time to get this show on the road. Corbett v Anthony and I like the Belfast man to win by knockout. £5 on at 4/1 will kickstart proceedings for me.
21:55 Oh bugger, my man looks, well old. Hopefully he’s retained his punch though, yet Anthony appears fit and up for it.
22:00 Deary me, Corbett rabbit punched his way through that one. Back to the shambles of fight one here. Think I’ve done my money again. Drat.
22:03 Another round for the Irishman but he looks poor. I’m looking for a miracle here…..
22:07 Sweet mother of mercy, this is dismal. Can Herbie inject some life? Corbett’s through and I’m £8 down.
22:12 The only value here is to pick a result for Hide. First round win? 11/4. Or should I be more prudent? I’ll be honest, I’m feeling clueless right now.
22:16 £3 on a first round blitz. Herbie……..go bananas (please).
22:23 Cringe, cringe, cringe. So close, the young lad took a thumping there. Shouldn’t go too much further this one.
22:27 Well, well, well. Hide is cut badly from a head clash. He’ll win this but is he out of the tournament?
22:36 Hide’s through and it’s Krence-Dickinson next. They fight like mirror images of each other. I might go for the Chesterfield butcher for the upset at 7/4.
22:41 Ok sanity come back to me. Let’s change tack. £10 JLD to win and reach the final at 2/5, returns a paltry £14 but I’d claw some cash back at least (and some dignity).
22:47 First round win for Dickinson but that’s tough to see, Krence was all over the place there. Hard to bear but great news for Dickinson, he’s in the final and smart betting has me back up to £24. Phew.
22:54 Drama here, Hide withdraws, and up steps reserve Nick Okoth. Well I never. Betting is suspended, oh the uncertainty!!!
23:00 Betting’s back and Okoth is a 5/1 outsider against Corbett. I’ll leave this one well alone and stick what’s left on the final I think.
23:04 Well we’ve had a butcher, a lawyer and now a fireman in Okoth. Where’s the candlestick maker? He’s doing well here too.
23:13 It’s boxing Jim, but not as we know it. The super sub is through, I think, and it looks like it’s Dickinson’s for the taking.
23:27 Well it’s the final and rather than playing safe on a Dickinson win or a decision win even, I’ll gamble on a stoppage victory to leave me in profit. Unlikely, but I haven’t sat through this lot for nothing!! £10 at 11/4.
23:45 Unbelievable. Pulled back from the jaws of defeat. Somehow, and I’ll never know how, I’ve ended up on £51.40, a profit of £21.40. Well done Dickinson, the Durham lad came good in what was an extremely mediocre night’s viewing.
Ok, time to finish up the big fight preview. Over and out.
