Ryan Rhodes returns to action on Friday night in his home town of Sheffield, against the “Bergamo Bomber”, Luca Messi. How the Italian wound up using his hands rather than his feet for a living with a name like that beggars belief, however, the fighter with a priest for a cornerman (his brother Alessandro) will be looking to go one better than his footballing namesake Lionel, by getting his hands on some European silverware this weekend (read more):

Also, just a quick update with regard to my Britain’s Best sidebar (just below). This is proving trickier by the week, with changes far more forthcoming than in the world’s best version which sits alongside it. Ricky Hatton exits this week unfortunately, due to inactivity and whilst Kevin Mitchell took a pasting at the weekend from the number one ranked man at his weight (behind champion Juan Manuel Marquez), I don’t see any real need to move him down the pecking order too far. I’ve therefore nudged him below the world rated Macklin. The gang just behind him are nip and tuck, yet Mitchell’s win over Breidis Precott just edges him ahead of them, for the time being at least.
The beneficiary of Hatton’s departure was tough to select. In the end, I’ve plumped for the unbeaten L.A. based Scot, Craig McEwan. I’m not at all secure with the way the bottom quarter of the list is panning out, so further adjustments may be required in the near future (as ever, if you feel you can help, please chirp up).
