With all due respect to George Groves, this forthcoming weekend feels like the lull before blast off as the sport prepares to go off like a firecracker in November. Throughout a six week span beginning on the 6th, boxing fans the world over can begin lapping up their milk and honey as they tuck into a programme which is positively rammed to the gunnels with big fight action.

In a bid to map out just what I’ll be attempting to cover here on SSOTR,  I’ve knocked up the following schedule, plucking out the best of the action and parading it shamelessly before you. It involves a few of those dudes on the photograph above whilst it also affords me the chance to pass on the fantastic preview video you’ll find nestled just below them (which I’ve watched far too many times all googly-eyed like for it be healthy).

I’ve mentioned the tremendous Gorilla Productions before who have returned after hitting a few snags, find them here on Facebook (don’t forget to locate SSOTR whilst your there by clicking here).

I’m convinced there’s a fight of the year winner amongst this lot and with four real, bonafide, non-alphabet soup, divisional world titles up for grabs, there’ll be a storyline or twenty along the way. For casual fans of the sport or for those who haven’t been keeping up with things as avidly as they once did, now’s the time to either jump on board or get back in the game.

As to which fight (or indeed night) I’m looking forward to most myself, well it’s difficult to say in all honesty. December 11th is a huge evening of fisticuffs for UK fans (with the likes of Nathan Cleverly, Matthew Macklin and Kell Brook also in action) whilst Showtime’s bantamweight card just looks like magic (the Brits might be unlucky with that one, lets just hope Primetime steal in and snaffle it up).

After a frustrating year boxing’s about to hit top gear. Bring it on.

  1. Another cracker to add to the calendar Haz – Marco Huck vs Denis Lebedev.

Can’t see it lasting long, but it’ll be hell for leather whatever its duration. I fancy Lebedev by KO within five rounds.

  2. I’m ashamed to admit I completely missed that one Dave. That is a cracker, give me Lebedev by knockout. Are you still off to the Casey fight? I liked his chances more against Martinez than I do Hyland I think.

  3. Yeah, off to the Casey fight tomorrow. Can’t wait.

A lot of people think along the same lines as you Haz, especially those who have seen them spar. I’m not so sure though. Hyland has the style to give Casey nightmares, but I have my doubts as to whether he has the power to back it up. And I believe to beat a fighter like Casey you need to have some sort of a dig, otherwise he’ll just walk right through you. See Hatton-Malignaggi.

If this was a six, or even an eight rounder I would probably tip Hyland, but twelve rounds is a long time to keep a pitbull like Casey off you. I think, after getting something of a boxing lesson for the first four or five rounds, Casey will grind Hyland down and stop him late in what will be Ireland’s version of Cotto vs Margarito, with Casey playing the role of Tony (minus the, ahem, magic wraps of course).

Maybe it’s a case of my heart ruling my head. We shall see. Think there is a live stream available on RTE’s website if you want check it out Haz. Can’t believe no-one has picked up Juanma-Marquez. What a disgrace.

  4. Should be a cracking night for you Dave. I’d like to see Casey win, he’s a throwback type. I’ll try and pick up the stream if I can, I’ll be watching Rees-Watson at some point though.

    Ireland’s Cotto-Margarito, that’s some build up!

Lopez-Marquez should be a cracker while it lasts, a real fan’s fight. We should be thankful for Sky’s coverage I know but I’m sure there are plenty who’d rather that they’d shelled out for that one some rather than throwing oodles of cash at Haye-Harrison.
