I’ve been a boxing obsessive since I was a boy really and a couple of years back (after I’d hit 30 and the unrealistic dream of ever being a fighter dissipitated!!) I found myself grumbling about my job etc so sat down and tried to figure out what I actually REALLY wanted to do…….at which point I wrote a cheeky letter to Glyn Leach, the editor of Boxing Monthly in the UK……and asked for a job!!
Mr Leach to his credit was very kind and wrote me back, explaining that he couldn’t just offer jobs out wily-nilly but I was more than welcome to submit work, which is what I’ve been doing ever since (nothing in print as yet but I have to keep plugging away).
I also received feedback advising that I improve my craft so to speak by writing for one of the better websites (which is where eastside came in) as I have no journalistic background to speak of (I’m a number cruncher by trade).
I’ve received some great encouragement from writers in the biz telling me to keep going, the ability to write and a passion for the sport is all you need. I have the passion, just hope I can hone the writing!!
